909 Whole transcriptomic analysis of acne and hidradenitis suppurativa reveals common inflammatory but distinct tolerance-inducing mechanisms

Acne and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) are region-specific follicular inflammatory skin diseases occurring around puberty (acne on sebaceous, HS apocrine gland-rich region). Their features also very similar with enhanced innate immune function Th1/17 activation. On the other hand, teenage acne resolves spontaneously in most cases, while shows no spontaneous remission, which has not yet been explained. We aimed to find out at whole transcriptomic level whether they indeed closely related diseases, if so, what might be reason behind resolution that is missing HS. Lesional samples (HS: own data, acne: data of Kelhala et al) were compared region-matched controls, common we analyzed disease-specific genes by multiple bioinformatics approaches. found 456 acne-specific, 1786 HS-specific, 438 DEGs (FC>2).
